Senator Ball Speaks About Potentially Devastating Effects Of Hydrofracking

Brewster, N.Y.– (2/8/12) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) will be giving a presentation at the Mount Kisco Public Library this Thursday on hydraulic fracturing, the process of extracting natural gas from gas shale deposits. The presentation is just the latest in the Senator’s efforts to educate the public on the potentially devastating effects hydraulic fracturing can have in New York State.
In August, Senator Ball took a tour of Bradford County, Pennsylvania where he witnessed firsthand the effects hydrofracking can have on communities. Now, he is urging Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and his colleagues in the state legislature to take a similar tour before allowing gas companies to begin the hydrofracking process in New York.
Senator Ball said, “This past summer I took a trip to Dimock, PA to see for my own eyes the effects that fracking has had on Pennsylvania property owners. I visited families who had their drinking water contaminated with the toxic concoction natural gas companies use and who saw the values of their homes drop by 90 percent. I am working diligently to make sure the public is educated about the potential effects of fracking and that the proper regulations are put in place to prevent big gas companies from devastating our homes and landscape.”

What an idiot. If you want the truth about Dimock, google Enough Already and learn what actual residents of the township have to say about the hysteria.

Thank you , Senator Ball, for helping to educate the public and state officials about the dangers of hydrofracking. I've seen in Otsego County (upstate NY) how fracking has, in some cases, polluted water supplies and caused illness among people and farm animals, how it has made some properties adjacent to drilled properties unliveable and unsaleable, thus destroying the financial worth of families who just had the misfortune to be neighbors of farmers who leased their land for drilling. There may be ways to do high pressure hydrofracking safely, but the oil & gas companies are not uniformly using them, and NY State has a duty to protect its citizens from the terrible risks of current drilling practices. Not to mention the damage to roads and the noise pollution of 24-hr a day tank truck traffic, and the clearing of land for unsightly drilling pads and roads to them. Even the US EPA, part of an administration that is touting the benefits of natural gas, is very concerned about fracking, believes that more study is required, and is considering detailed regulations. New York should at least have a moratorium until the EPA finishes its investigation.

Marilyn, I live in Otsego County, please tell me where a) Fracking has occurred in this county, and b) the results you described occurring.
I imagine you've also seen the sky falling, Chicken Little, but it ain't here.

Senator Ball, we've already discussed the misinformation you're giving your constituents. Please take another trip to PA and talk to the 99% of the people that are pleased, and talk to the Enough Already folks and save yourself a lot of embarrassment.
