Brewster High Graduate Dies at 28

Services are slated for Thursday and Friday.

Matthew John Oliveri of Putnam Lake died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, at the age of 28.

He was born Sept. 20, 1983, in Carmel, the son of Joseph Oliveri of Brewster, and Carolee Oliveri of Prospect, CT. A decorated veteran of two tours in the Persian Gulf, he served four years in the Coast Guard, including time aboard the USCGC Spencer.

Since then, he worked selflessly as a firefighter with the Montrose Veterans Affairs Fire Department, protecting those who served. Before that, he began volunteering with the Putnam Lake Fire Department, while still a student at .

Besides both of his parents, he is survived by three brothers: Michael Oliveri and his wife, Tracie, of Cheshire, CT; Joseph Oliveri of Stratford, CT; and Steven Oliveri of Brooklyn. He is also survived by his nephew and godson, Jake, and niece, Jaqueline Oliveri; his maternal grandmother, Shari Cowen of Mt. Vernon; and his paternal grandmother, Grace Oliveri, of Chappaqua.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Putnam Lake. Internment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Kisco. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home (1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster).

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Oliveri's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project by visiting this website. Non-perishable food items may also be brought to Matthew's Food Dude truck in Putnam Lake.
