Looking Ahead: Pops Concert, Fitness Talk, Charity Carnival

1. See a Very Local Show
When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday/Performing Arts Center at Brewster High School (on Foggintown Road in Southeast)
Why go: Support your local students and recognize their hard work by attending this Pops Concert. The Jazz Band is slated to make an appearance and folks will enjoy light refreshments. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Pricing: $5 (at the door only)
2. Indulge in a Host of American Girl Doll Activities
When/Where: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday/The Mount Kisco Library (on East Main Street in Mount Kisco)
Why go: Valerie Tripp, the writer of the American Girl Collection, will speak about the joy of her work at 1:30 p.m. Afterward, she will sign books and be available for photos. Attendees will also have the chance to meet the folks behind the American Girl Quilt display. At 1 p.m., the Stepping Up Dance Company will perform a medley of dances inspired by the characters and times of the American Girl collection. Boys and girls of all ages are invited, and are encouraged to bring along a favorite doll, action figure or stuffed animal.
Pricing: $5 per child or $10 per family
3. Learn How to Lose Weight and Get Healthy
When/Where: 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday/Mahopac Public Library (on Route 6 in Mahopac)
Why go: Dr. Edward Covelli, author of Lean After Forty, is headlining this event. It's slated to include a book signing, as well as a discussion on improving heart strength, looking and feeling younger and losing weight. Registration is required, so call 845-628-2009 (extension 100) for more information.

4. Attend a Children's Carnival for Charity
When/Where: Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday/The Harvey School (on Jay Street in Katonah)
Why go: The Harvey School will host the Second Annual Children's Carnival for Charity, sponsored by the Community Service Club and offered for local families with grade-school-aged children. There will be bouncy stations, traditional carnival games, a juggler, stories and crafts for preschoolers, a "salon" for the girls, raffle prizes, baked goods and lunch for sale. There will be dance workshops in the Lasdon Black Box Theater. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity and The Reading Village.

5. Eat Breakfast with the Community
When/Where: 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday/Veterans of Foreign Wars (on Peaceable Hill Road in Southeast)
Why go: You'll get to show your support for the veterans while enjoying tons of breakfast items, from sausage to eggs to waffles and more. The food will be plentiful and the company more than pleasant!
Pricing: Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for young adults (kids younger than 12 eat for free)
