Looking Ahead: Play in Croton Falls, Exhibit at Studio on Main Street and More

Take a look at Patch's picks for great weekend activities in-and-around town.

 

1. Support the Arts at Studio Around the Corner

When/Where: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday/Studio at Old Town Hall (on Main Street in the Village of Brewster)

Why go: Michelle Peterson and Bennett Karas are presenting several pieces, including tons of jewelry, in an exhibit called The Art of Metal in the Hudson Valley. Local musician Billy Borchert will be playing some of his original tunes.

2. See a Play

When/Where: 3 p.m. Sunday/The Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls 

Why go: This two-part show will include a dramatic reading of An Inquiry in Florence followed by a "talk back" with new playwright Barton Kunstler. Click the first link for more information.

3. Break a Sweat and Pick Up Some New Moves at Zumba

When/Where: 12:30 p.m. Sunday/Danbury War Memorial in Danbury, CT

Why go: This session promises to be quick-paced and easy for beginners. You're bound to get your heart rate up, too!

Pricing: $5 for first-time attendees (prices for others vary — see the link above for details)

4. See Puppeteer Peter Linz Visits Little Joe’s Books

When/Where: 2 p.m. Saturday/Little’s Joe’s Books in Katonah

Why go: Peter Linz, the renowned puppeteer and “Walter” of the new Muppet movie (and who also performed the Oscar-nominated song” Man or Muppet"), will visit the Katonah book store. He will bring “Theodore the Lion” to meet the crowd.

5. Attend This Year's Hudson River Eaglefest 

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday/Croton Point Park in Croton on Hudson

Why go: To honor the majestic eagles of the Hudson and enjoy activities — from guided and independent eagle viewing to storytelling, children’s programs, bird walks and displays from 30 local collaborators. This event is hosted by Teatown Lake Reservation and includes entertaining and educational shows that will take place all day long in The Eagle Theatre and Eaglet Stage heated tents.

Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill will feature a storytelling presentation from Jonathan Kruk, a falconer with a live demonstration, and ice sculptures. The City of Peekskill is also providing a free, round-trip shuttle bus from Croton Point Park to Riverfront Green all day.

Pricing: Advance sale tickets for Eagle Theatre shows are $5 each, $10 at the door. Kids ages 3 and younger are free. Travel by charter bus at 9:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. with a Teatown educator for an in-depth view of eagles in their natural habitat, for guests ages 12 and older. Tickets are $25 per person.
