SPCA Seeks Tips on Deceased Dog Found in Southeast

An employee of the in Southeast came across the body of an adult, male dog in the woods behind the restaurant Friday night.

According to a press release from the Putnam County SPCA, the dog, who was medium-sized and brown in coloring, appeared to have been dead for a few weeks at the time of the discovery. Officials say he may have been a pit bull, but they are unable to confirm a breed. The release did not indicate a cause of death.

"It is unclear at this time if this dog was a victim of dog fighting, or any other act of animal cruelty (abuse/neglect), and dumped in this secluded area," the document states.

The employee discovered the body in a wooded area behind the restaurant's back parking lot. The SPCA responded to the report, and they found that the dog was wearing a one-inch brown collar, attached to a "long red wire lead." The collar lacked any sort of name tag, and upon further investigation, officials concluded that the dog was not microchipped.
