Valentine's Day Shopping: 5 Local Gift Ideas

From the classically romantic to the unique and non-traditional, there are plenty of ways to grab a great gift for Feb. 14 — without ever leaving Putnam.

 

Patch spoke with managers and shop owners at the following local establishments. Whether you're shopping for a husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend or just a pal, be sure to check out our lis. It's full of items the experts are recommending this Valentine's Day. 

Assorted Items from The Bowl Company on Main Street in Brewster (the following pieces are available in person, but be sure to visit the site for more ideas)

Handmade Art in the Form of a Card at The Freight House Cafe on Route 6 in Mahopac

  • Various cards are decked with ribbons, beads, gems, sweet sayings, cut-out pictures and more, $5 

Jewelry from (Brewster-based) Anne Koplik Designs online 

Sweatshirts from The Putnam Humane Society (PHS) on Old Route 6 in Carmel

  • Crew-neck sweatshirts in white, blue or green with the PHS logo in a heart, $18 to $21 

Tasty Treats from Brewster Pastry on Route 22 in Southeast (no need to order in advance)

  • Tuxedo strawberries (dipped in two types of chocolate), $15 a pound
  • Small, assorted Valentine's Day-themed cookies, $15 a pound
  • Large cookies with hand-written messages, $2.50 each
  • Cakes (think strawberry shortcake in the shape of a heart, red velvet with a the words "Be Mine" and/or chocolate poundcake with chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache), $25 each
