Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for seniors, and Assemblyman Frank Skartados wants his elder constituents to stay strong on their feet. On Thursday, December 13, Assemblyman Frank Skartados and experts from VNSNY CHOICE, a nurse-led health plan for Medicaid and/or Medicare eligible New Yorkers by the not-for-profit Visiting Nurse Service of New York, will present an important Falls Prevention workshop at the Manor At Woodside in Poughkeepsie.
- WHAT: Preventing Falls Among Seniors
- WHO: Assemblyman Frank Skartados and experts from VNSNY CHOICE
- WHEN: 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM, on Thursday, December 13, 2012
- WHERE: The Manor at Woodside (168 Academy Street, Poughkeepsie NY)
- RSVP: (212) 561-7478
Every 17 seconds a senior is taken to the emergency room because of a fall. Furthermore, 70% of these falls occur in the home. This free workshop hosted by VNSNY CHOICE will help seniors identify common situations and activities that can put them at increased risk for dangerous falls. In addition to tips and techniques for avoiding injury, the presentation will provide an opportunity to ask questions about how to assess a home environment for potential fall hazards, how to choose footwear and walking aids that offer increased stability, and how to find local resources that can help seniors build strength and increase stamina. Free transportation provided, as well as lunch and gift bags.
