Relay For Life Challenges Residents to "Lose Big" and Get Healthy

The American Cancer Society is celebrating its 100th year this May and the ACS Relay For Life of Mahopac is challenging residents to mark the occasion by "losing big" and getting healthy.

Relay For Life of Mahopac invites residents of Mahopac, Carmel and Brewster to join a weight loss contest that will begin March 1 and run through May 31. The winner will be revealed at the annual Relay For Life of Mahopac celebration on June 1 at Mahopac High School. Relay For Life of Yorktown is holding a parallel challenge for its participants.

To enter the contest, participants need to join a Relay For Life team and make a personal donation of $100. To indicate participation in the Lose Big challenge, entrants should add the text "RBL*" after their last name and send an email to Relay For Life of Mahopac co-chair Brigett Lummel at blummel@aol.com with the subject "RFL 100 Days to Lose Big." Participants will be weighed during the week of March 4 and again on May 31; details will be provided to entrants.

"Your weight will not be published at any point in the process," said Lummel. "We will work with the weigh-in facilitator to track the start and end weight of each participant."

All participants will receive a purple "healthy goody bag" for their "Lose Big" $100 donation. The bag will contain gym passes to Bad Mikey's in Mahopac, Club Fit (30 days) in Jefferson Valley, Gold's Gym, All Out Fitness, Personal Training by Connie Cramer, Solaris, Sweat in Shrub Oak, Zumba from Intrigue Dance & Fitness and a limited supply of food from Jenny Craig.

Although everyone ends up a winner in the quest to good health and a cure for cancer, Relay For Life of Mahopac will select one adult female, one adult male and one teen winner. Each winner will receive a makeover from Blue Remedy in Mahopac, a photo session with Tabitha Pearson Marshall and more prizes to be announced.

Team and individual registration for this year's Relay is open at relayforlife.org/mahopacny.

Relay For Life of Mahopac is part of a national event at which participants fundraise to fight cancer, celebrate survivors and remember lost loved ones. This year's Kickoff Party will be on March 21 at Putnam National Golf Club.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
