Brewster, 9/14/2012—Senator Greg Ball (Patterson – R, C) was at the Southeast Old Town Hall to present a $250,000 capital grant that has been successfully secured. The check presentation took place on the steps of Old Town Hall before the opening of “The Edgy Side of Life” art show by Dawn Willis.
The current focus of the Cultural Arts Coalition is the renovation of the Southeast Old Town Hall, a historic landmark within the Village of Brewster and a perfect venue to serve as a cultural hub. The Old Town Hall is currently home to the Cultural Arts Coalition's Studio Around the Corner, as well as long time tenant, the Southeast Museum. This building has been described as a “Jewel in the Center of Brewster” and its renovation will help foster the revitalization of downtown Brewster.
Sen. Ball was happy to announce that, as a result of a three-way agreement, funds are now available for a $250,000 capital grant. The president of the Town of Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition, Robert Zubrycki, said the grant will give this project a large step forward.
“The money will be going to reopening the theater on the top floor which has been vacant for a number of years. We feel that our region could use a cultural arts and education center in the village of Brewster,” said Robert Zubrycki. “This is a landmark building and will be key to having the village thrive. I am very grateful for this money. This gives us a huge jump for our fundraising campaign that we have already started. We look forward to working with the Town of Southeast and the Southeast Museum on this project."
“I am so happy that we were able to secure this grant to help to reopen the Brewster Theater. My hope is that this grant will help jump start the fundraising efforts and encourage private investors to make this project a reality,” said Sen. Ball. “I am proud to fight to bring as much of our tax money back from Albany, to home, where it belongs. As long as I am in office I will continue to fight for the residents of Brewster and for all the constituents I represent district wide.”
