Volunteers needed this Sat. for the Brandon Farm Initiative

Editor's Note: What follows is user-generated news. If you would like to post your news to Patch, click here for detailed instructions.

The Brandon Farm Initiative (BFI) is a collaborative project between the Putnam County Land Trust (PCLT) and the New York New Jersey Trail Conference through which we will plan and implement trails and other features at the recently-acquired Brandon Farm parcel located off Farm-to-Market Road in Brewster. Importantly, BFI is a volunteer-development initiative—a project we have envisioned explicitly as an opportunity to train and deepen the skills of our volunteers in a number of diverse areas.

Whatever your experience level, we need your help! We think this project has much to offer to our Volunteers in terms of opportunities to develop a variety of skills and talents that will be useful not only in Preserve work but in other areas of one's life. And we hope of course that these efforts, if you join us, will provide for you a sense of investment in and ownership of the work of PCLT—we are as an all-volunteer organization only ever as strong as our dedicated volunteers. Your first chance to help will occur this coming Saturday January 14 at 1 pm:

Learn the Elements of Trail Design with Gary Haugland of the NYNJTC on Saturday, January 14th at 1 pm. Meet at the Ludingtonville Road entrance to Wonder Lake State Park. Gary will take us on a trail walk to point out design elements taken into consideration when siting one of the trails at Wonder Lake State Park in preparation for trail design on the Brandon Farms Preserve. The parking area is on Ludingtonville Road between Rt. 311 and Bowen Road. Dress for the weather. Plan on spending at least 1 and 1/2 hours out of doors.

If you would like to be involved with BFI, please get in touch with our Volunteer Coordinator Jude Jones as soon as possible.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.

Great topics. I really like Mr Jacobs point of view on education. Also "A recipe for aRead More meaningful education." Always looking for more ideas on this topic. After all it is your child education-why not let then be involved in decisions. Look forward to April 12th. Thank you to Longview for offering this great event.
