Newtown Club Hosts Lessons for Aspiring Bridge Players

The Newtown Bridge Club will host two series of lessons for aspiring bridge players on Mondays at the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Station, 34 Hawleyville Road (Route 25), Newtown CT, beginning March 24, 2014.
Easybridge! 1, for beginners and players returning to bridge after some years, will be held Monday mornings from 9:30 to noon. Polishing Your Game, for intermediate and advancing duplicate players, is scheduled for Monday evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. Players may come to the lessons alone or with their bridge partners.
“The emphasis in Easybridge! is on fun and learning from playing. Beginners play in a game their first lesson,” said club manager Susan Fronapfel who will present the Easybridge! lessons. “To encourage players to take up this fascinating pastime, the first four lessons are free.”
Polishing Your Game will cover topics such as conventions, balancing, defensive play and signaling. Gary Miyashiro will teach this class for players who have some competitive bridge experience.
The Newtown Bridge Club is affiliated with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The club holds four ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games each week: Mondays at 1 pm, Tuesdays at 10 am and 7 pm and Wednesdays at 10 am. Games are played at the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Station, 0.3 mile north of I-84 exit 9. All bridge players are welcome.
