White Plains, NY - Under fire and facing a pending lawsuit from Gannett’s Journal News paper – Putnam County Clerk came to White Plains today to announce his support for Mary Beth Murphy as Westchester County Clerk.
“The primary reason I support Mary Beth for Westchester County Clerk is that she exhibits the same conviction that I do: that is, the welfare and personal privacy of her citizens is of paramount concern” said Putnam County Clerk Dennis J. Sant at a press conference held in front of the Office of the Westchester County Clerk.
Clerk Sant continued… “Mary Beth Murphy is an attorney who is well qualified to be Westchester’s next county clerk and its first female county clerk. As Supervisor of the Town of Somers for the past fifteen years, Mary Beth has been an excellent administrator. She will take those qualities with her to the county clerk’s office of Westchester County.”
Mary Beth Murphy thanked Clerk Sant for his unprecedented County Clerk endorsement and noted: “I was shocked when I discovered that County Clerk Idoni agreed to give the names and home addresses of law- abiding, pistol permit holders… to the Journal News just two hours and six minutes after he received the newspaper's FOIL request.” Ms. Murphy continued; “I'm proud to have the endorsement of Putnam County Clerk Dennis Sant who stood firmly on the side of his constituents to protect their safety and privacy. Westchester residents also deserve a County Clerk who will protect their privacy and safety in access to public documents.”
Mary Beth Murphy is in her eighth term as the Supervisor of the Town of Somers. As Supervisor she is responsible for the management of the Town including annual budgeting, capital project oversight, policy and ordinance formulation and implementation, personnel management and constituent communication. She is known for her leadership in numerous collaborative efforts with all levels of government. Under Mary Beth’s leadership Somers municipal property tax rate remains the lowest in Westchester County. She will use her extensive administrative skills and her experience in the private sector as a practicing attorney to efficiently and effectively manage the County Clerk’s office.
