Brewster Carolers Sing, Count Down for Tree Lighting [VIDEO]

Members of the high school marching band delighted local folks with several classic numbers before the singing began.

About 50 bundled up community members helped kick off the 2012 holiday season with decoration-making, songs and a tree lighting in the Village of Brewster this weekend.

The activity began with a children's ornament crafting workshop at the Southeast Museum. As that wrapped up, and dusk set it, about a dozen members of the Brewster High School began playing Christmas songs outside the buildling, along Main Street. Folks donning gloves, hats and scarves gathered around with little ones and enjoyed the music, especially favorites like Jingle Bells and Joy to the World.

After the band finished their set, organizers led the group in carols. Folks followed along in a booklet which outlined the tunes.

After a few songs, the group, which included Mayor Jim Schoenig, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell and Southeast Councilwoman Elizabeth Hudak, headed east on Main Street. They crossed the roadway and climbed the hill to the Walter Brewster House, where they stood on the front steps and sang a bit more before counting down for the tree lighting.
