Brewster Fire Dept. Volunteers Win Patch Person of the Year

A very close second-place goes to the group of people who helped save a local man's life at a school event.

The voting has closed in the Southeast-Brewster Person of the Year poll and the majority have selected Brewster Fire Department (BFD) members.

Scores of local folks involved with the company volunteer their time on emergency calls—like long-lasting fires, storm-related issues, truck crashes and more—at all hours of the day and night. They put in tons of hours for training exercises, too.

And their selflessness is not limited to local causes. Just a couple of months ago the department initiated a supply drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy. About a dozen members sifted through a room full of donations and loaded the items onto a tractor-trailer.

The company has been around for more than a century. New members are always welcome.

In addition to the BFD volunteers, three people (or groups of people) were nominated for the recognition. Users voted in an unscientific poll on Southeast-Brewster Patch.

Congratulations to all who were nominated and thank you to the locals who voted.
