REMINDER: I-84 Eastbound to Close This Weekend

Eastbound Interstate 84 will be closed by 5 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 19) until Sunday afternoon as New York State replaces the second of two bridges that carry traffic over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast.

Crews are repeating the method they used last month when they replaced the westbound bridge: destroying one bridge and sliding a new one in its place

The state Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to use alternate routes.

"I-84 eastbound will be fully closed beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 and will be reopened Sunday afternoon, October 20," officials said in this notice. Lane closures and sign work are expected to be underway at 11 a.m. "All eastbound I-84 traffic will be detoured onto Route 6 at Exit 20 in the Town of Southeast and directed back onto I-84 at Exit 1 in the City of Danbury, CT."

Dingle Ridge Road will be closed from Friday (Oct. 18) until at least Wednesday (Oct. 23). Other roads—motorists will be prohibited from making left turns onto 6 within the detour—will be affected too.

The DOT will be providing updates via its website.
