Youngster Makes Friends Easily, Thanks to Love of Helping Others

In this feature, we showcase the accomplishments of our youngest citizens.

  • Name: Emily Bauer
  • Camp:
  • Accomplishment: Acclimating to camp as a newcomer in no time!
  • Key to Awesomeness: Interest in helping others.

After a recent move to Southeast, Emily is in her first year of camp. Town Recreation Department Leader MaryAnne Gallipani says she has made tons of friends over the past few weeks, most likely because of her outgoing personality. She called the 10-year-old camper one of the "most well-adjusted" kids she knows.

Another thing that makes meeting new friends easy is Emily's habit of going out of her way to lend a hand.

"I just like helping people ... helping kids do homework ... just helping my neighbors," she told Patch Wednesday morning. Earlier that day she set up beach equipment, welcome signs and materials for a recycling project with camp staff members.

"It was a constant, 'Can I do something for you?'" Gallipani said with a laugh. "No one ever says that to us! She was ready and willing to help everyone."
