Your Weekend: Kayaking in Patterson, Quilts and Book Talk in Brewster

There are tons of ways to keep busy around Brewster and Southeast this weekend, and we're here to help you decide which happenings are for you.

Here are the details for three great events. Scroll down to the end of this article for information on a few more.

Kayaking on the Great Swamp
When: 8:30 a.m. Saturday (July 13)
Where: Patterson Recreation Center at 65 Front Street in Patterson
Why go? This is the second of four trips by HG Fairfield Arts Center to the Great Swamp, which runs through parts of Putnam and Dutchess. The group will meet at 8:30 sharp at the recreation center and and return by noon. Get up close and personal with the the wildlife and plants that call the swamp home. Beginners are welcome, as are experts. Click the link above for more information, including pricing details.

Mahopac Country Auction
When: 9 a.m. Saturday (July 13)
Where: First Presbyterian Church at 411 Route 6N in Mahopac
Why go? This event will feature live and silent auctions, with proceeds benefitting the church's historic building restoration and preservation. Preview starts at 9 a.m., and the auctions at 10.

Southeast's Crazy Quilters
When: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (July 12), noon to 2 p.m. Saturday (July 13) and Sunday (July 14)
Where: Studio Around the Corner at 67 Main Street in Brewster (Suite 101)
Why go? Local woman who have been quilting together for years—while sharing their "lives and talent," organizers say—will display their pieces starting Friday with an opening reception. Next weekend the quilts will be on display, too (Friday and Saturday hours repeat).
