Business Spotlight: Kid Escape USA [VIDEO]

The facility—which offers open play sessions for $10, as well as private birthday parties—serves youngsters ages 2 to 12.

Southeast resident Liz Lyons doesn't take the phrase "family business" lightly.

The mother-of-three opened Kid Escape USA, located in the corporate park on Mount Ebo Road South in Southeast, in June. She decided on launching the business after giving birth to her third child. At that point, she was racking her brain trying to find ways of keeping the kids busy—and active.

Now, her son works at the facility, and her daughter loves to hang out there with friends, she said.

That applies to most youngsters who step foot in the huge space. It's filled with arcade games, bouncy castles, slides and more. For $10, parents can sit in the cafe area—chat with a friend, read or work on a laptop—while the kids tire themselves out with tons of activity. They can even come back after lunch and keep playing, for no additional charge.

Lyons said she chose to open the business in Southeast for several reasons, including the fact that Brewster is like a "nucleus."

"You have Pawling, Patterson, Carmel, Mahopac, New Fairfield (CT), Ridgefield (CT)," she told Patch. "You can hit so many little towns. And people will travel up to 25 or 30 minutes to go to a recreation center or a birthday party."

Lyons also said she wanted to support the community where she lives.

"If you're going to put money into something and create some jobs, i'd rather do it here in Brewster."

Plans for a grand opening ceremony are in the works.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
