Retail Roundup: Gallery Renovates, 'Puppies' Closes, Dance Naiad Opens

Plus treat frozen yogurt has a new addition to their product line available in local stores.

Here's a look at recent business changes going on in Bedford and nearby. If you know of something we haven't mentioned, let us know in the comments.

Lionheart Gallery Unveils New Look, Focus on Contemporary Art

After being closed for extensive renovations for nearly a year, The Lionheart Gallery is up and running at 27 Westchester Avenue, and according to manager Susan Grissom, it's "sporting a stunning new look, a new focus on top drawer contemporary art and a new owner, a European art dealer."

Barbara Pomerantz of Construction Solutions, Inc. led the design, said Grissom, and the result is a new chic and contemporary look. Included are artists who work in conceptual art, expressionism and contemporary realism in a variety of media, as well as fine art photography with alternative photographic processes.

Current exhibitions include photographs by Vivian Cherry, a 92-year-old documentary and street photographer who captured historical scenes in New York from the 1940's and 1950's. The Lionheart’s Small Works Gallery features Mihail’s small Paul Klee-inspired metal sculptures. For more on the gallery's exhibits visit their website.

The Lionheart Gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. As the gallery is occasionally closed briefly for appointments with collectors, you may want to call ahead: 914-764-8689.

Maggie May's Expands to Goldens Bridge

Margaret Nader has found success with her frozen yogurt shop, and is ready to expand. You may have noticed the brown paper over the door next to Subway in the Goldens Bridge shopping plaza. That's scheduled to come down any day now, to reveal the shop's signature self-serve frozen yogurt stations and array of toppings. They won't be serving ice cream, said store manager Oladele Freeman, because of a non-compete clause with Baskin Robbins located in the same plaza. Maggie May's will offer chocolate and vanilla each day and a rotating set of specialty flavors like red velvet and cake batter.

Treat Sells Peanut Butter Fro-Yo in Stores

Speaking of frozen yogurt, we hear from the owners of treat frozen yogurt that their popular peanut butter frozen yogurt is now available in distinctive peanut butter jars. They're offering it at their retail shop in Cross River and also at local retailers including Greenwich Produce in Vista, and Spring Street Country Market & Deli in South Salem and Wm. Nicholas in Katonah. More good news: Treat peanut butter has no saturated or trans fats, has no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, and is gluten-free.

Puppies Puppies Puppies Closes

The pet store Puppies, Puppies, Puppies, which opened just over a year ago, closed its doors at 742 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills about two weeks ago. Kathy Morgan, store manager, said the business was too slow to sustain the shop.

Dance Naiad Opens

Dance Naiad has moved from its former Railroad Avenue location and opened at 774 North Bedford Road, sprucing up the space where Wireless Zone opened up even more. Classes began on Sept. 10. Owner Carrie Tron posted on her blog that she was encouraged by what she's seen so far in the new location: "Everyone in the room brought powerful energy," she said of one dance class, "and my heart filled to see such potential so early in the year." Lionheart Gallery is a wonderful place to visit. But you omitted the information that it is located in the Scotts Corners business district of Pound Ridge.

Thanks Ruth! I've also added a link to their listing, which includes information about where they are located. The listing is in the process of being updated with new photos and information, too.
