As Flash Flooding Hits Hudson Valley, Maloney Announces Federal Aid Available to Homeowners And Small Businesses

Newburgh, NY— As flash flooding hits our region and Hurricane season approaches, Maloney announced federal aid programs available to homeowners and small businesses impacted by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee. Maloney launched a website last week to help homeowners and businesses continue to apply for federal recovery aid. Specifically, Maloney encouraged businesses and farmers to apply for assistance if they were directly damaged or experienced economic hardship as a result of one of these storms. In addition, Maloney highlighted ongoing housing programs available to homeowners who have unmet rehabilitation or repair needs from one of the storms.

“It is a priority for me to ensure there are now funds available for any unmet needs from any disaster and hope my office will continue to be a resource for my homeowners and business owners who lost so much. We cannot forget our families, businesses and farmers who were never made whole after Hurricane Irene and Lee,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

Last Thursday, Rep. Maloney also hosted a workshop at SUNY Orange in Newburgh that helped over two dozen community leaders apply for strategic investments to prevent damage from future disasters. As of June 24, 2013, FEMA Public Assistance has obligated $1.37 million to Orange County and $1.28 to Putnam County. These important investments federal investments reimbursement communities for their emergency response efforts following Hurricane Sandy while shielding residents from storm-related tax hikes. Working with local leaders, Rep. Maloney wrote to Governor Cuomo to highlight key projects across the Hudson Valley that are critically important to preventing future storm damage.

“After the major superstorm events of Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy, I appreciate Representative Maloney’s assistance to help our community rebuild more resiliently. When citizens and local, state and federal governments work together, we can build stronger, safer and smarter in order to reduce future injuries and damage,” said Middletown Mayor, Joe DeStefano, who attended the workshop.
