Maloney Launches Small Business Advisory Board

Newburgh, NY – Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney hosted the first meeting of his Small Business Advisory Board, where a cross section of the Hudson Valley’s small business owners discussed challenges they face and what initiatives they believe will help them grow and hire more workers. At the first of many roundtables, Rep. Maloney listened and discussed a number of issues including comprehensive immigration reform, the Affordable Care Act, economic uncertainty, and reducing regulatory burdens. Comprised of businesses from all four counties, the Small Business Advisory Board includes industries like tourism, advertising, technology and consulting along with representatives from a number of local economic development organizations.

“I ran my own company - I know how difficult running a business can be, so I want to continue to hear directly from our business leaders on how we can partner together with the thousands of our small businesses to create jobs and grow our economy,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney. “All of us agreed that we need to take action to serve those who have served us, and I’ll keep working with my colleagues, employers and community leaders to take specific actions to increase the number of veterans hired by small businesses.”

Like Rep. Maloney’s Veterans and Agriculture Advisory Boards, the board will provide counsel and information to Representative Maloney and his staff regarding small business related events, legislation, and initiatives.

Since joining Congress in January, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney has hosted a series of “Congress at Your Company” events with large and small employers as well as made many stops on “Main Street” listening tours in Mahopac, Wappingers Falls, Highland Falls and Goshen. Earlier this year, he also hosted a free business workshop that presented financing program options, business opportunities, and technical assistance from more than a dozen organizations.
