Maloney’s Office Hosts Workshop for Communities Recovering from Superstorms

Newburgh, NY -  To help communities rebuild stronger after major disasters like Sandy, Irene and Lee, Representative Sean Patrick Maloney announced today that his office hosted a workshop at SUNY Orange in Newburgh that helped over two dozen community leaders apply for strategic investments to prevent damage from future disasters. So far, both Orange County and Putnam County have received more than $1 million in FEMA reimbursements for their emergency response efforts following Hurricane Sandy and repairing public and damaged facilities, and Washingtonville is eligible to receive up to $3 million dollars as a Community Reconstruction Zones. Earlier this year, Rep. Maloney wrote to Governor Cuomo to highlight key projects across the Hudson Valley that are critically import to preventing future storm damage.

“Although we cannot stop disasters like Irene or Sandy, we can make strategic investments to rebuild, make us stronger, and take smart steps to protect our communities and economy,” said Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

“After the major superstorm events of Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy, I appreciate Representative Maloney’s assistance to help our community rebuild more resiliently. When citizens and local, state and federal governments work together, we can build stronger, safer and smarter in order to reduce future injuries and damage,” said Middletown Mayor, Joe DeStefano, who attended the workshop.

“Hudson Valley families and businesses have shown their resilience in their recovery, and my office will continue to be a resource for my homeowners and business owners who lost so much,” concluded Maloney.

Maloney launched a website this week to help homeowners and businesses continue to apply for federal recovery aid.
