Health Department: Stray Cat Tests Positive for Rabies

Officials are advising anyone who had contact with the animal within a certain five-day window to call 845-808-1390, extension 43160.

The Putnam County Department of Health released the following Monday morning:

Brewster, NY — A stray cat found in the vicinity of Ernest Lane and Barrett Hill Road in Mahopac tested positive for rabies virus over the weekend. Any person who may have been in contact with a stray cat in this area between April 30 and May 4, 2012 is advised to call the Putnam County Department of Health immediately at 845-808-1390 ext. 43160 to assess the need for treatment.

If treatment is initiated promptly following a rabies exposure, rabies can be prevented. If a rabies exposure is not treated and a person develops clinical signs of rabies, the disease almost always results in death. For additional information about rabies please visit the Health Department’s website at www.putnamcountyny.gov/health.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
