Meet Rosey, a Cat with Feline Leukemia Virus

Her adoption fee is $100.

Lately, Rosey the cat has had a rough go of it.

Her owner recently returned the sweet, affectionate girl to the Putnam Humane Society (PHS) because of a family move. Shortly after Rosey's arrival in mid-June, veterinarians diagnosed her with the feline leukemia virus (FeLV).

Staff members at the PHS say Rosey is not on any medication associated with the virus, which affects the immune system and can be deadly. When it comes to other cats, Rosey can only be around those who test positive for the disease, too. Other animals, like dogs, are OK.

Rosey will be 3 in August. Her adoption fee is $100. She would do well with an owner who is familiar with FeLV-positive cats.

While all the animals — there are roughly 100 of them — need forever homes, the society can always use donations (especially old newspapers!). Check out the shelter's site to learn more about needed items, stop in and visit, or check out the other animals we've featured (in chronological order):
