Town of Southeast Continues to Accept Donations for 2013 Fireworks

Anyone interested in contributing may write to southeastny@gmail.com.

The pot of money earmarked for a 2013 Town of Southeast fireworks was at about $200 as of last week—far from the $10,000 threshold previous shows ran.

Councilman Bob Cullen provided that number, shortly after sending a reminder about donations to the online group Brewster10509.

"If anyone wants to send a donation thru [sic] PayPal to fund community fireworks on July 4 2013," he wrote, "the email address to use is Southeastny@gmail.com."

Cullen and other officials decided to seek financial support from the public after many residents sounded off on the lack of official fireworks in Southeast this Independence Day. The Town sponsored shows regularly in the past, but they came to a halt because of what Supervisor Tony Hay called "financial problems." He declared a fiscal emergency when he took office in January.

Anyone interested in donating may contact Cullen at RCullen@southeast-ny.gov for more information.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
