Sandbank Issues Statement on Brewster Student's Death

Recommends "Parents Trauma Resource Center" as a resource for discussions with youngsters.

Brewster Cental Schools Supertinendent Dr. Jane Sandbank released the following to community members via email this week, following the death of a 13-year-old Southeast boy:

Dear Brewster Parents and Guardians,

We respond with great sadness, condolences and with respect to the family and as a school community to the tragic death Monday evening of our Wells 8th grade student. There is staff in each building — social workers, school psychologists, guidance personnel and administrators available to help you work through this with your children. Please do not hesitate to call them. I am including an excellent and age-specific resource below that you may also find helpful.

We will be convening a district-wide meeting with experts from the Regional Crisis Team as well as our own staff to address the many issues, questions, concerns, responses and feelings this tragedy, especially coming so soon after the Sandy Hook incident, raises for all of us as parents, educators and members of the Brewster community. Details will be available shortly as to the date and time of this meeting.

In the interim, please contact us if you need any assistance. I further ask that since there are so many rumors and misinformation circulating through social media and word-of-mouth that you try to communicate to your children as much as is possible that what is circulating may not be true and is neither respectful nor appropriate. The case is still being investigated by the appropriate authorities so there is no reliable information or details revealed or available to us at this time. Here is the link mentioned above: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001X9eUM8LZTZYGkk4f4AiZk7RWv7lCwyvz23CXAaZYwV3n0Dd-rtJRiSDJ-5jXtoZA1-qQmhqzT017bOBC4fA55UMgnPB1pi-Kfk88mKl19FPsIsQzEpeBtAMTFbCJ-qf4.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jane Sandbank

What you actually need is a permit from the NYC DEP. The reservoir is owned by NYC and they governRead More all activities. You can find out more at http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/html/recreation/boating.shtml

The building is owned and operated by the Town of Southeast. All people in the Village of BrewsterRead More pay taxes to the Town of Southeast.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
