Folks are invited to come out and pay their respects to America's veterans at a ceremony in Carmel tonight at 7.
That's when the Putnam County Joint Veterans Council is slated to officially open the mobile, 80-percent scale model of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The structure Wednesday afternoon before arriving at the on Gypsy Trail Road in Carmel.
The wall is part of the larger Cost of Freedom Tribute. It features dedications to several wartime events, including the Fort Hood Shooting.
Folks are encouraged to come out and see the 360-foot-long, eight-foot-high structure between now and Sunday. Admission is free.
Here is a rundown of the events slated for this weekend:
- 7 p.m. Thursday: Opening ceremony
- 6 p.m. Friday: Prisoner of war ceremony, with a demonstration that leaves two men in a bamboo cage for 24 hours
- 6 p.m. Saturday: Men are released; Ninham Mountain Singers perform
- Afternoon Sunday: Closing ceremony
