Wet Weather, Heavy Snowfall on the Way for Brewster

Heavy snowfall is headed for the region Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Putnam and Northern Westchester will likely get snow Friday, according to the National Weather Service—not just accumulation, but also strong winds combined with snowfall that could bring blizzard-like conditions.

Cloudy skies and relatively mild temperatures on Thursday could give way to some light snow Friday morning and afternoon, mixed with freezing rain before 3 p.m. Then temperatures drop to the mid-to-low 20s and precipitation turns to all snow by Friday night.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Friday night, forecasting "significant snowfall, strong winds with near blizzard conditions."

Here is Friday's NWS forecast for Brewster:

Snow before 3pm, then snow and freezing rain. The freezing rain and snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. East wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Friday night likely brings more snow.

"The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 21. Blustery, with a north wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent," the forecast reads.
