Health & Fitness

Less than 2 weeks until the Danbury mineral show!

Summer is winding down and that means lots of things, from orange and yellow flowers on the jewelweed plants, to chrysanthemums at the supermarket, to the Dutchess County Fair (and the NY State Fair too)... back to school season, and the 63rd Annual Danbury Mineralogical Society's Jewelry, Gem & Mineral Show!
As usual, it will be held the Saturday and Sunday after Labor Day, so this year it will be on September 7 and 8, at New Milford High School (more about that later).
I believe we'll have 15 - 17 vendors (and a wholesale room too) -- minerals, gems, fossils -- grab bags, door prizes, display cases.  $5 admission for adults, Seniors and students $4, and Scouts in uniform get in FREE!  Attention Cub Scout, Daisy, Brownie and Webelos leaders, this might be a venue where you can fulfill a few program requirements!
One of my very favorite vendors is a scrimshander (scrimshaw artist), Ed Booker, who along with his wife Joan comes down from Dartmouth, Massachusetts, with a van full of treasures including big old sperm whale's teeth depicting old sailing ships!  Carol and Melvie of Berkshire Minerals always surprise me with a new trend in fossils or crystals.. every vendor tends to have a balance of classic and trendy, standards and new stuff.  It's a great way to do some holiday shopping and pick up a little something for yourself (and/or the kids) as well.
While we're on the subject, you may also like to consider the Mid-Hudson Valley Gem & Mineral Society's show, which is also coming up soon: September 21 and 22 at Gold's Gym complex on Titusville Road.  http://mhvgms.org/annual_show/
Getting back to the Danbury show, you can get to NMHS by taking Exit 7 off of I-84 East (in Connecticut), and following "Super 7" through where it ends... the HS is not too much farther, on your left.
