Grand Central Terminal 100th Celebration

Metro-North Commuter Council

As part of the Metro-North Railroad (MNR) celebration of the 100th anniversary of Grand Central Terminal (GCT) next year, the MNR Commuter Council is participating in a festival on each of the three lines that terminate in GCT.  For the Harlem line, The Village of Brewster’s Founders Day has been chosen by the Council in light of its impressive historic station, the long history of rail service there and the prestige of the Founders Day program.  The Council’s participation during the festival will feature informational tables at the station, a historic talk/tour about the station, a children’s activity, and a drawing for a trip to GCT with lunch and a tour.  In a similar manner the Council will also be participating in Yonkers’ Riverfest and the Street and Music Fair in Pelham.  MNR has approved of these selections and will be listing them in its Getaway brochure.

Mayor Jim Schoenig said; ‘The Village of Brewster is delighted to be selected as a showcase station for the Grand Central Terminal Centennial celebration.  Our historic Village highlights our train station as the focal point for commerce, development, and growth.  The station is integral to the success and continued advancement of the Village.  A short ride to Grand Central Station puts you in the heart of Manhattan where public transportation or pedestrian pathways offer abundant attractions and destinations.  Indeed Grand Central Station is a destination all by itself where attractive architecture and commercial opportunities abound.  Our 2013 Founders Day is a great venue to showcase this honor.”

About Brewster:

The Village of Brewster in Putnam County, NY is an historic community about an hour north of New York City, 30 minutes north of White Plains, 10 minutes from Connecticut and the city of Danbury.  We are pursuing strategies and resources that will position us to renew our community by replacing worn-out housing stock, broadening our tax and government services customer base, re-purposing vacant buildings, leveraging new and upgraded infrastructure, capitalizing on the hub of two interstate highways, proximity to NYC via commuter rail, and highlighting natural surroundings such as the East Branch of the Croton River and other environmental assets.
