Senator Greg Ball Seeks To Build Home For Wounded Vetearn, Hosts First Planning Meeting Thursday

Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) is assembling a Senate Task Force with the goal of building a home for a wounded veteran within the next year.

On Thursday, September 12, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Senator Greg Ball will host an informational meeting at the Carmel Town Hall, located at 60 McAlpin Avenue, in Mahopac, NY. At the meeting, Purple Heart Homes will give a presentation regarding their expansion into New York State.

Purple Heart Homes is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2008 by service disabled veterans Dale Beatty and John Gallina. Mr. Beatty and Mr. Gallina were deployed to Iraq in 2004 and served together in the same unit. On November 15, 2004, an explosion from an anti tank mine hit their vehicle, and resulted in severe head and back injuries for Mr. Gallina and the loss of both legs for Mr. Beatty.

Senator Ball, Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, plans to  partner with Purple Heart Homes to initially build a home locally, and then join efforts statewide in a larger “500 Homes for 500 Heroes” effort.

“Dale is a great American and a hero. Dale has selflessly taken a personal tragedy and turned it into a wonderful initiative that he has taken nationwide. When I first spoke with Dale on the phone, I knew this was something we needed to bring to my district,” said Senator Greg Ball. “I am developing a Senate Task force comprised of local elected officials, financial institutions, and community partners who will be dedicated to providing a personalizedhousing solution for a service connected disabled veteran, locally within the next year.”
