Back in the Day: 1926 Paper Covers Sports, County Issues and More

The issue ran 10 pages.

A high school baseball championship. An advertisement pushing a four-piece bedroom set for $98 at the Brewster Furniture Company. A report on the Putnam County Jail.

Those are only a few of the items that appear in the Friday, June 11, 1926 issue of the Brewster Standard, available online via the . The paper, which existed from 1870 to 1982, sold for $2 a year back then.

Some of the top stories of the 10-page issue focused on Westchester's search for a new slogan, the Putnam County Health Association's dealings with tuberculosis, and an elected official's view on new liquor laws—in addition to  sports.

Other front page news included a list of local youngsters, several from Southeast, who qualified for a County spelling bee. A Danbury couple's Brewster wedding made Page 2.
