Donations Needed for Thanksgiving at Bob's Diner

Thomas Sprague and the staff at Bob's Diner in Brewster are preparing for the annual Thanksgiving dinner and hoping the community will chip in with donations. The event is open to all, and free to those who need it.

Sprague is the owner of the Main Street staple and he's been hosting the dinner for years. He, his family and employees spend the day at the diner, serving those in need of a meal or some company.

Between 50 and 70 people usually attend. Much of the food comes from local folks who donate it.

Everyone is welcome, even those who aren't in the mood to cook, Sprague said. Any monetary contributions from folks who are able to make them go to Capital District Youth for Christ.

The organization is based in Albany, and it's aimed at helping young people who are struggling. It's run by Ray Lightcap, who served at First Baptist Church in Brewster for 25 years.

"People say I do a great thing," Sprague said. "Not really, [it's] more the community. Really."

Here is a list of wanted donations:

  • Side dishes: Vegetable, sweet potato, etc.
  • Desserts
  • Turkeys: Cooked or deep fried
To sign up to bring a dish, call 845-278-2478 or email bobsdiner55@yahoo.com. The event is from 3 to 9 p.m. and take-out will be available.
