Train Show Brings Back Childhood Nostalgia for Brewster Historian

Village of Brewster and Putnam County Historian Denis Castelli took a trip down memory lane recently with a visit to the Elks Club's Second Annual Train Show.

In a post on Patch, Castelli recalls the 1950s when setting up a model train set was a big part of Christmas—just as much so as "freshly cut trees and fresh evergreen wreaths..."

The train show included several elaborate setups, as well as a marketplace with individual cars and pieces for sale.

"The fact is model railroads take me back to an innocent time when the only stress in life was associated with grade-school tests or homework. For me, model railroads and Christmas go hand-in-hand," Castelli wrote. "And a model railroad, wherever and whenever I see one, evokes the spirit of the holidays and brings back memories of a child’s eye view of Christmas."
