Veterans Hall of Fame Honors Brewster, Carmel, Mahopac Residents

More than 20 veterans from Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties are will be inducted into the 40th Senate District’s Veterans Hall of Fame Thursday evening.

Locally, the list includes Steven Mattson of Southeast, Charles Monte of Mahopac, Francis Duncan and Yvonne Rustico of Carmel and Anthony Nacerino of Patterson.

State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C, I — Patterson) asked towns and villages to nominate former service members for this initiative, which is in its third year. He created the Hall of Fame "to honor outstanding individuals who have nobly and selflessly served the United States of America."

Ball and community members paid a visit Wednesday afternoon to Ralph Anderson of Buchanan, who lives at the Veterans Home at the Montrose VA, and his wife Josephine Anderson. Because Ralph is bedridden, Joseph Anderson, a three-star Army general, will be representing his father at Thursday's event.

The ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 21) at the Mahopac Falls Elementary School (100 Myrtle Avenue in Mahopac). The veterans will be featured on a traveling wall that tours municipalities and schools throughout the area.
