Volunteers to Give Back in Brewster Area for Annual Community Service Day

More than 400 volunteers will work on projects across Putnam, Westchester and Fairfield (CT) counties Friday (Oct. 25) for PepsiCo Gives Back Day. Three are taking place in the Brewster area.

PepsiCo employees will head to Green Chimneys in Southeast, Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Patterson and Pegasus Therapeutic Riding in Southeast.

At Green Chimneys, where PepsiCo groups have lent a hand in past years, the group will be helping out in the cow pasture. The fencing has weathered over time and needs replacing, according to Diane Guilfoil, the facility's volunteer coordinator.

Volunteers will be removing fencing boards and wire fencing, painting the boards, tacking on new wire fencing and then reattaching the fence boards, Guilfoil told Patch.

"We are so grateful for our PepsiCo Groups who come with lots of elbow grease and willingness to help us complete the tasks that we otherwise might not be able to accomplish this year," Guilfoil said.

Jennifer Milillo, Green Chimneys' director of marketing and communications, echoed those sentiments.

"Donated services such as this are tremendously valuable to us as they provide important maintenance for our facilities and program areas," she said in an email. "Our farm is a key aspect of programming for our special needs students and of course, is home to a large percentage of our 200+ animals."
