Erik Markert of Brewster Troop One Achieves The Rank of Eagle

Brewster, N.Y. – 12/17/2013 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, presented Erik Kristopher Markert of Brewster Troop 1 with a New York State Senate Proclamation for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on Sunday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster.

Eagle Scout is the highest possible rank in the Boy Scouts of America. The Eagle Scout is an honor that is held for life and is said, “once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”

For Erik’s Eagle Scout Project he led a group of fellow scouts, friends and adult leaders to construct an information kiosk at the historic Old Southeast Church Cemetery on Route 22. The kiosk will be used by the Hilltop Sports & Conservation Inc, and the Southeast Historical Society to post information for visitors to the cemetery.

“I would like to congratulate Erik for achieving this honor, only a very small percentage of Scouts make it to the rank of Eagle Scout. While Erik has accomplished a great deal to achieve this rank, his journey has only just begun and it is very clear that he has a bright future ahead,” said Senator Greg Ball. “Erik’s project is a wonderful addition to the Old Southeast Church Cemetery. The kiosk will provide visitors with information as they visit the historic site of the oldest marked grave in Putnam County, that of Abigail Moss Kent who died in 1751.”
