Brewster, N.Y. – 9/24/2013 – On Thursday, September 12th, 2013, Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) announced during a roundtable at the Carmel Town Hall that he would be teaming up with Purple Heart Homes to build a home for a local service connected disabled veteran within the next year.
Senator Greg Ball and Purple Heart Homes are now seeking community support to find a service connected disabled veteran as well as a location to build the home. In addition to the veteran and location, Senator Ball and Purple Heart Homes are also seeking a highly motivated volunteer coordinator and fundraising coordinator for their initiative.
“It is heartwarming to see the immense community support we have received since we first made this announcement. Literally hundreds of local elected officials, financial institutions, small businesses and community partners have stepped up to the plate. We are now beginning the first steps of securing a service disabled veteran and a location to build the home,” said Senator Greg Ball. “If you would like to join our Purple Heart Homes Senate Task Force and join our honorable efforts, please contact my office today.”

Purple Heart Homes is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2008 by service disabled veterans Dale Beatty and John Gallina. Mr. Beatty and Mr. Gallina were deployed to Iraq in 2004 and served together in the same unit. On November 15, 2004, an explosion from an anti tank mine hit their vehicle, and resulted in severe head and back injuries for Mr. Gallina and the loss of both legs for Mr. Beatty.
Dale Beatty, Co-Founder of Purple Heart Homes and a 2013 CNN Hero nominee, said he was very excited to start the project.

“We are very excited to put the plans together to provide an approved Service Connected Disabled Veteran in a soon to be renovated home in Senator Ball's District 40,” said Dale Beatty, Purple Heart Homes Co-founder. “Our plans include a January kick-off, a March Demo Day and a June Mission Complete Ceremony to coincide with Army Week in New York as part of the Army Week Association.”
The timeline for the construction of this service disabled veterans’ home is as follows. The Kickoff event, to create buzz in the community for volunteers to step up and help, has been slated for January, 2014. The demolition day, where Purple Heart Homes, officials and volunteers begin the actual construction, is scheduled for March of 2014. Finally, the target mission complete date for the home is June, 2014.
