In 1912, Danbury Fair, Republican Party Made Front Page

Articles about New York's farmers, and the "high cost of living," appeared on Page 3.

A century ago this week, local folks were reading about the Republican picks for governor and lieutenant governor of New York.

That's according to the Sept. 27, 1912 issue of the Brewster Standard, available online via the Brewster Public Library. The paper existed from 1869 to 1982, and covered the Brewster-Southeast area, as well as Danbury (CT), Pawling, Peekskill, Poughkeepsie, White Plains and Yonkers.

The Republican State Convention set the ticket with Job E. Hedges at the top of the ticket. James W. Wadsworth, Jr. was the choice for lieutenant governor. The paper provided details on the number of votes each received, as well as the counts for other hopefuls.

Below that story was a preview about the Danbury Fair and a story about Supreme Court proceedings in Carmel, while two obituaries ran on the right-hand side of the page. Several advertisements also sat above the fold.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
