Brewster High School Grad, Former 'Ducky's Deli' Owner Dies

Donald R. "Ducky" Polverari died on Wednesday, Dec. 4, after a courageous fight with cancer.

Ducky was born in Brewster on Jan. 23, 1936. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1954 and went on to serve in the United States Army for three years. On Aug. 23, 1958 he married Sandra Bennett. He worked for the Westchester County Police Department as a parkway patrolman. He owned and operated Ducky's Deli in Brewster. They retired to Vero Beach in 2002.

Ducky was predeceased by his parents, sister and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra; their six children, Andrea Borda (David) of Vero Beach, FL, Beth Enright (Ward) of Poughkeepsie, Lynne Harvey (Larry) of Brewster, Rita Gallagher (Tom) of Vero Beach, FL, Christine Hannigan (Jim) of Vero Beach, FL, and Donald Polverari (Mary Claire) of New Fairfield, CT; his beloved 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Borda, Rachel Eyman, Julie Borda, Austin and Monica Enright, Kathryn and Eric Harvey, Matthew and Drew Gallagher, Amanda and James Hannigan, Donald Albert and Michael Polverari; and many nieces and nephews.

Ducky will always be remembered for his love of cooking, his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all for his quick jokes, good food and opinions on life.

A service will be conducted at a later time.

Donations in Ducky's name can go to St. John of the Cross, Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
