David Lewis: Retired NYPD

David E. Lewis, 86, of Fishkill, passed away peacefully at Wingate at Dutchess on July 20, 2013. 

David was born on January 1, 1927 in New York, NY. During World War II he was a gunner’s mate in the US Navy followed by joining NYPD in 1952. His career included ESU1 in addition to being assigned at the 42, 43 retiring at the “country club” 50.

He was a longtime resident of Lake Carmel, member of the VFW Post Daniel J. O’Brien and elected as post commander. He was the creator of the notorious “Green Table Gang” AKA ROMEO CLUB, a member of the original Taconic Archers and the Putnam County Fish and Games Association. After retiring from the police department he worked out of Local 53 Carpenters Union, White Plains also retiring from there.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved his guns. David was also known to a few as “Charlie Ickelhouse, The Great White Hunter as the Big Kahuna.” 
The “Big Kahuna” was predeceased by his wife Marion ( Sweet Lalanie) Lewis and is survived by two sisters, 3 Children, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces’, nephews, daughter in laws and many good friends. David was very loyal to his community, friends’ neighbors’ and family. He loved God and Country and was “The” New York’s Finest.
 
Friends may call on Tuesday July 23, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home 900 Rt 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at 10am from St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Fishkill. Interment will be private.
