Former Brewster Woman Dies at 97

Genevieve R. Bauer, of Narragansett, RI, and formerly of Brewster, died Monday Jan. 6, in Wakefield, RI. She was 97 years old.

Mrs. Bauer was born July 14, 1916 in Harrison, NY daughter of the late Harry and Rose (McAdams) Reilly. She graduated from the college of New Rochelle with a bachelor's degree in education and received her master's degree in English from Fordham University.

Genevieve married William A. Bauer on Dec. 26, 1938 in Harrison, NY. Mr. Bauer predeceased his wife on Nov. 14, 2004.

Mrs. Bauer worked as an elementary school teacher at the Harrison Central School District for 32 years before retiring in 1973. She was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster.

Genevieve is survived by her two children, Janet Brownlee of Southampton, NY and Jack Bauer of Narragansett, RI; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Brewster. Internment will follow in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beecher Funeral Home (1 Putnam Avenue in Brewster).

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Brewster Food Bank.
