Lifelong Brewster Woman Dies

Beecher Funeral Home provided the following obituary.

Ruth G. Oddey, a lifelong resident of Brewster, passed away on Saturday. Ruth had just celebrated her 99th Birthday.

Ruth was born Sept. 24, 1913 in Brewster, graduated from Brewster High School, attended business school and was employed as an administrative secretary for many years at Wassaic State School.

Ruth was the daughter of Terrence and Mary Ann (Connors) Gallagher. She married David L. Oddey on June 28, 1947 in Brewster. Mr. Oddey died July 3, 1969.

Ruth enjoyed her travels to their home in Vermont; she loved history, especially her home of five generations! She was a lifelong member of St. St. Lawrence O'Toole Church.

Besides her husband David, Ruth was predeceased by her three sisters, Mabel, Marguerite and Irene; her only niece Elizabeth Fazzinga; and her husband Joseph. She is survived by two grandnieces, two great grandnieces, and two great grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church on Propsect Street in Brewster. Interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beecher Funeral Home (located on Putnam Avenue in Brewster, 845-279-3615).
