Obituary: Brewster Woman Dies at 85

Services are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Dorothy Murray, 85, of Brewster, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 in Summerville, SC.

Mrs. Murray was born on March 28, 1927 in Brooklyn to Charles and Nellie (Griffen) Westmiller. She graduated from the Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Murray married Robert J. Murray on Aug. 27, 1949 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Brooklyn. Mr. Murray died on Nov. 15, 1994.

Family above all, was most important to Dorothy. Volunteering in the library or cafeteria at St. Lawrence School, where many of her grandchildren attended, was just one of the many ways she found she could be close to them. Dorothy also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and traveling.

Mrs. Murray is survived by her three children, Deborah Ballard of Charleston, SC; Robert J. Murray and his wife Margi of Brewster; and Gerard Murray and his wife Mary Rose of Brewster. A brother, Charles Westmiller of San Francisco, CA and a sister Kathleen Leonard of Staten Island. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at . Interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. Friends may call on from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Beecher Funeral Home (located on Putnam Avenue in Brewster, (845)-279-3615).

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
