Dr. Salvatore Militano, of Brewster, died Wednesday in Danbury, CT, at the age of 80.
He was born on April 10, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Antonio and Caterina (Muschera) Militano. He served with the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 then went on to receive a medical degree from Bologna University School of Medicine and Surgery in Italy. On April 24, 1965, he married Johanna Gaetaniello in Bologna.
Dr. Militano worked as a psychiatrist for Connecticut State for 23 years at Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown and then at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport. He also worked at Danbury Hospital for 24 years before retiring. He has treated patients privately in Newtown for the past two years.
Dr. Militano is survived by his wife Johanna of Brewster; his daughters Alexandra Militano and Antonia Militano Mulé of New York City; his brother Vincent Militano of Calabash, NC; and his sisters Mary Rose Caparelli of Mt. Vernon, Catherine Mascali of Staten Island and Claire Channon of Long Beach
A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 28, 2013, at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster. Internment will follow at Milltown Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Beecher Funeral Home (located on Putnam Avenue in Brewster, 845-279-3615).
