Obituary: Former Brewster Woman Dies

Services are slated for Tuesday.

Beecher Funeral Home provided the following information:

Barbara A. M. Durand, of Danbury, CT, and formerly of Brewster, passed away Saturday at home. She was 75.

Barbara was born Jan. 6, 1937 in the Bronx, the daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Larkin) Markel. She attended Brewster schools and Mary Mount College.

Barbara enjoyed making decorative crafts, however, her greatest passion in life was spending time with her family and friends, all of whom loved her immensely.

Barbara is survived by Robert Durand of Southbury, CT and her children: John E. Bruno and his wife Diana of Brookfield, CT, Karen Bruno Roos and her husband Dave of Danbury, CT, Regina Bruno of Laurelville, OH, Jeffery C. Bruno and his wife Jennifer of Bethel, CT, Lynn B. Bruno of Danbury, CT and Christopher L. Bruno and his wife Diane of Danbury, CT; and her brothers, Howard, Gregory and Dennis Markel. Barbara is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Lauren, Natalie, Luigi, Carlie, Caroline, Mallory, Charles, Jamie, Meghan and Michael; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother, John E. Markel, in 1951.

A graveside service will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until noon, at the Beecher Funeral Home (located on Putnam Avenue in Brewster, 845-279-3615).

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.

Great topics. I really like Mr Jacobs point of view on education. Also "A recipe for aRead More meaningful education." Always looking for more ideas on this topic.
