Margaret E. Soravilla, a resident of Patterson since 1996, passed away at Northern Westchester Hospital on Sunday, May 11, 2014. She was 90.
Born in White Plains on March 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Margaret (O’Reilly) Horner. Mrs. Soravilla was a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II and worked in a factory that built the Dauntless dive bomber. While working at Sonotone after the war, she met her future husband, Joseph Soravilla, and they were married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in White Plains on May 8, 1949. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 8th. They started their family and lived in White Plains until 1963, when they moved to Mahopac. Mrs. Soravilla was a member of St. John’s Church in Pawling and an avid reader; she loved history, especially the Civil and Revolutionary Wars. She enjoyed music; her favorites were The Beatles, Tom Jones and Harry Babbit of the Big Band Era. She also loved the Yankees and watching golf on TV.
Mrs. Soravilla is survived by her husband at home; two sons, Michael and his wife, Debbie, of Mahopac and Kevin and his wife, Pat, of Yorktown Heights; daughter, Margaret Mary McAuliffe and her husband, Daniel, of Brewster; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charles, Joseph, Jennifer, Justin, and Kevin; two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Richard; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Joshua; two brothers, Robert of Mahopac and James of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Charles.
Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 E. Main St., Pawling on Thursday, May 15th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Pawling, NY on Friday, May 16th at 11am. Burial will follow in Pawling Cemetery.
