Vacancies: Space in Lakeview Plaza

Put aside all the regulations, restrictions and rules—we're asking you what type of establishment would make the most sense in this space.

Let's call this a modern spin on community planning; a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.

We present a vacant space or property and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. What would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

Our inaugural installment of this column received a couple of great suggestions, as did our subsequent posts. Now, we're hoping you'll weigh in on the vacant space that sits next to the A&P in Route 22's Lakeview Plaza.

That shopping center offers an eatery for breakfast and lunch, a jeweler, a pharmacy, a pizza place, a supermarket and much more. So, we want to know: What's missing?

Please leave your answer in the comments section below. Thanks for participating!

About this column: In highlighting vacant buildings in Southeast and Brewster, we aim to help residents take a proactive role in planning and building their community. We'll run this column every other Friday and, when appropriate, take your feedback to public officials and property owners, to inform their decisions about future uses. Know of a vacant building we should highlight? Email Ashley.Tarr@patch.com.

I would like to see either a health food store or a Pretzelmaker store there since the mall lost that this year.

How about Mrs. Green's Market (a major health food store)?

Traders Joe!!! Hands down!!! I know so many people who shop at Joe's and who travel all the way too Ct.. It would bring in the much needed monies and it would more monies,to the near by establishments. Example; Gas Stations, Food & Restaurants, Feed Barn, Liquor Store, Ski Haus, Etc.. Think of it. Our own neighbors drive to Ct. & spend their tax dollars there instead of here!!! Traders is an excellent IDEA!!!

I have a feeling everyone would love a Trader Joe's. Everyone except the A&P

I highly doubt you will see a Trader Joe's since there is one already nearby. And Whole Foods is opening in Danbury this spring. Besides the A&P is there and you do not know what their lease states regarding other food stores being placed in the plaza. I would like to see a small store like Bella Rose, which closed. Somewhere you can get items and not have to go too far.

How about a decent quality Chinese Restaurant... Not fast food take out only but a actual sit down restaurant that offers take out!

Is laser tag still a thing? Because laser tag would be great. Or maybe I just have some leftover 90s nostalgia for it.

On second thought how about a book store? I don't know of any in Putnam County.

Our community needs more options for teens. Other than a movie ($20 for ticket/snacks) or bowling (don't even get me started on that pricing), and the mall (unsupervised for the younger teens and can be expensive for them), there's really nothing else left. The laser tag idea already posted is a great one. Add in some air hockey tables and arcade games and it's a fun night for kids. Although I love Trader Joes, it would do a disservice to A&P, but who's to say they can't put it in Carmel where the old A&P used to be?

Hey Barry if you need paint or hardware go to Palmer Bros right down the street!!!!
