Weighing In: Who is Brewster's Woman of Distinction? [POLL]

The Town of Southeast submitted its own recommendation last week.

State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C — Patterson) is accepting nominations to honor a woman from each town, village and city in the 40th Senate District.

Municipalities either have selected or are currently in the process of selecting nominees. If you would like to suggest someone to represent the Village of Brewster, email a board member or leave your recommendation in that comments section below this story. We'll be happy to pass it along.

The Southeast Town Board submitted its recommendation last week, nominating Eleanor Fitchen, who died in 2009. Fitchen split her time between Manhattan and Southeast, before eventually moving here permanently and dedicating herself to several local causes. Trustees say her legacy will "live on forever."

"She has been a vital part of Southeast's history and a trailblazer for our town," the town's letter to Ball states. " ... Eleanor Fitchen is what the Women of Distinction award is all about. She has set the standards by which future Women of Distinction should follow in order to receive this prestigious award."

The Women of Distinction will hold a ceremony and reception on Friday, March 30, 2012 to welcome its first class of honorees, recognizing one woman of distinction from each municipality.
