Bad news for commuters.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced Monday it is mulling over four possible fare hike options for subway and bus riders, one of which will likely be implemented in March of 2013.
The uptick is due to a required $450 million in annual revenue, MTA officials said.
The options
- #1) Single-ride fare would jump from $2.25 to $2.50, 30-day fare would jump from $104 to $112, and week-long fare would jump from $29 to $30.
- #2) Single-ride fare would jump from $2.25 to $2.50, but the bonus change riders receive when purchasing a $10 refill would be eliminated. The 30-day fare would jump from $104 to $109; the week-long fare would remain the same price.
- #3) Single-ride fare would remain at $2.25, but bonus change would see a five-percent dip. The 30-day fare would jump from $104 to $125, and the week-long would jump $29 to $34.
- #4) Single-ride fare would remain at $2.25, but bonus change would be eliminated. 30-day fare would jump from $104 to $119, and the week-long fare would jump from $29 to $32.
